چکیده مقاله
Municipal solid waste management is one of the challenges facing humanity today in the face of increasing consumption. Disposing of waste in the open or unprincipled landfills is a risky solution that is practiced in developing countries. Despite similar cultures, the Middle East and North African countries have a wide range of economic development, but almost all countries in this region face the challenge of waste disposal. This study attempts to provide practical criteria and alternatives for solving the waste challenge in the Middle East, using expert opinions. Fuzzy TOPSIS is the method used to rank the alternatives. The advantage of this method is that it uses weights for each criterion based on expert opinions. The alternatives examined in this study consist of two main stages. The first stage includes alternatives for on-site separation, separation from the origin, and non-separation of waste, and the second stage includes energy recovery, compost production, recycling, landfilling, and incineration. The study criteria also include economic, social, environmental, and technological criteria. The results show that the on-site separation solution - composting and recycling, and the without separation - energy recovery solution are superior to other alternatives. Accordingly, the proposal of this study is to support decision-makers in taking measures to produce compost, recycle, or recover energy at waste sites in the Middle East and north Africa region.
